Description
Summary:This dataset consists of observations of sea ice properties. The observations were collected by human observers during the 2014 SUBICE cruise from 18 May - 17 June 2014, aboard the icebreaker USGS Healy in the Chukchi Sea. Underway observations are a record of the ice conditions as visible from the bridge of a ship, including such variables as the ice type, concentration, estimated thickness, and melt pond fraction, among others. Observations are collected every 2 hrs while the ship was underway, and once at an ice floe while parked for on-ice operations. All observations were recorded according to the standardized Arctic Shipborne Sea Ice Standardization Tool (ASSIST), which was developed by the Climate and Cryosphere (CliC) program. Data is provided in standard ASSIST sheet format.
