| Summary: | Ethnographic data were collected using an interview protocol that included survey questions designed to assess validity of existing harvest data and semi-directed questions designed to document additional information about household demographics, participation in the salmon fishery, use of salmon, and factors influencing fishing practices. In 2016, researchers conducted interviews in 6 Yukon River communities: Alakanuk and Marshall in the lower river; Nulato and Galena in the middle river; and Beaver and Eagle in the upper river. Interviews were transcribed providing a narrative format for analysis using Atlas.ti. Interviews were coded for factors influencing harvest practices and compared on the community, regional, and drainage level. This dataset was created as part of NPRB project 1412. Harvest data are part of an existing annual program where data are collected through systematic, post-season, household surveys documenting salmon harvests in the Yukon River drainage. Since 1988, ADF&G staff survey a stratified random sample of Yukon Area households. Data collected on the household level is aggregated to the community level for public reporting. The harvest portion of this dataset is maintained by ADF&G Division of Commercial Fisheries in their Annual Management Reports (AMRs).
