Bycaught Halibut Discard Automated Measurement System, Bering Sea, Winter 2017

Data represents measurements and associated imagery captured by an automated measurement system aboard a commercial fishing vessel in the Bering Sea winter of 2017 . Fish were tracked by a video camera as they slid down the discard chute. An image-processing application detected and segmented fish f...

Fish were tracked by a video camera as they slid down the discard chute. An image-processing application detected and segmented fish from the background, saved a representative snapshot, and generated a measured fish length and associated weight estimate. The resulting snapshots were saved, superimposed with the associated length, weight, and a quality metric representing an estimate of the measurement fidelity. In addition, all raw video footage was saved in .avi format. A small representative sample of video and associated images are posted here. All numerical measurements are presented in CSV form.
