Seasonal variations in currents reflect the changing weather patterns in the region. Heat flux measurements were conducted at selected locations. "The purpose of these studies was to define the net circulation, the driving forces and thermal energy signatures of the region. Transport of suspended material, nutrients, and larvae are strongly affected by the water mass movement through the passages of the Florida Keys." Data were reported in major scientific journals.
