Description
Summary:SUMMARY .The Shoemaker Procellaria aequinoctialis was discovered breeding at Inaccessible Island, Tristan da Cunha, in the early 1920's by Partridge. The warrens were investigated by Lawrence in 1943, and again by the authors in 1949 and 1950. The present paper is believed to be the first published record of this Shoemaker breeding‐station, where the birds have now been found present in the months of May, June, September and November and to be exclusively of conspicillata type. Their nesting habits are unlike those of the species elsewhere and they are smaller birds. They are regarded not as a colour‐phase but as a subspecies, P. ae. conspicillata.
