Within Araphura , the analysis of the postmarsupial stages in A. higginsi sp.n. indicates a saltatorial growth of the pereaeonites from neuters to females. Therefore, the shape of the pars molaris and the structures of uropods are the main taxonomically useful characters. The second species described as new in the genus, A. joubinensis sp.n. has formerly been recorded as A. brevimanus from Antarctic waters. Finally, based on material from Great Britain, a redescription of the type species, A. brevimanus , is presented.
