The nomenclature of the Pacific herring, Clupea pallasü Valenciennes, 1847

Confusion over the nomenclature of the Pacific herring is shown to have stemmed from the comparison of it with White Sea herring which was mistakenly assumed to be conspecific with Atlantic herring.
