Summary:Abstract Gitanopsilis (Crustacea, Amphipoda, Gammaridea), a New Amphilochid Genus from the Sublittoral of King George Island (South Shetland Islands) In the sublittoral of King Georg Island we found the family Amphilochidae present in two genera, altogether with four species. The algae living species Gitanopsis squamosa (T HOMSON , 1880) is very common in the shallow water. In depth of about 100 m we collected two very rare species: Gitanopsis denticulata sp. n. and G. fucatosquamosa sp. n. Every species was caught only at one station. Some characters of a fourth species made it essential to erect the new genus Gitanopsilis. Gitonopsilis amissio nov. gen. et spes. is a rather rare species. It could only be collected at 7 stations in the deeper sublittoral from depths of 45 to 150 m at rocky bottom with mud, and also from muddy bottom. It seems that it occurs in the deeper grounds in patches with high populations. This new species is closely related to Gitanopsis simplex S CHELLENBERG , 1926. Therefore, the systematic position of the species of S CHELLENBERG had to be revised. New genus and species are described and their systematic position is discussed.
