Summary: | Abstract An investigation of ring closure reaction of two photochromic spiropyrans with different ń‐alkyl chain lengths in liquid crystal solvent and DML vesicle solution is reported. The temperature dependence of In k was determined in these media. Arrhenius plots for both compounds show a sharp sensitivity of the relation In k vs. 1/ T when passing through T c of the nematic liquid crystal solvent and the vesicle phase transition temperature, respectively. The specific behaviour of photochromic spiropyrans with various alkyl chain lengths in liquid crystal solvent and in vesicles solution can be correlated with their specific orientation and different local polarity of the medium. |
