Description
Summary:From arctic to tropical climates, on land and sea, the human body must meet numerous challenges, both physical and social, to survive and reproduce in an environment defined by the laws of gravity and evolution. As a social organism, the human primate develops and matures through a dense net of interactions with other humans and animals. The evolution of tool making provided the body with extensions that helped humans to successfully mediate these interactions in all sensorial modalities that have evolved as adaptations to its physical, biological, and social environments. Bipedal mobility, brachiation, and manual dexterity led to a range of adaptive behaviors including balance management, self‐care, and proximal and distal bodily interactions that have been regulated by various cultural constraints and have generated a rich gestural and lexical repertory. Technological advances keep expanding the interactive power of the human body.
