Description
Summary:The author, a specialist in the use of cartographic sources for Russian history, discusses various maps resulting from Russian exploration of the coasts and islands of the Bering Sea region during the second and third quarters of the 18th century. Her purpose is to demonstrate the priority of Russian discoveries, as well as the accuracy of the resultant maps, in the face of their underappreciation and even falsification by contemporary non-Russian scholars both within and without the country.
