Description
Summary:This chapter focuses on Lenny Kohm’s visit to Norma Kassi’s family hunting camp in Crow Flats, a vast wetland area north of Old Crow, Yukon. Kassi invited him to visit in May 1988 to take pictures for the slide show and to learn about their lives on the land. While there, Kohm often accompanied and photographed Norma’s brother Danny Kassi and others engaged in subsistence and cultural activities. The chapter includes many different perspectives on Kohm and his photography, including stories shared by Norma Kassi and Lorraine Netro, both citizens of the Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation. These stories demonstrate how Kohm found a political cause and formed deep personal connections in Gwich’in country.
