Summary:Fish bones, often reduced to fragments, are found during the excavations of prehistoric campsites. These bones can be of interest to the archaeologist as a valuable source of information on the diet of past human populations. One important objective of archaeological faunal studies is, then, to calculate accurately the size of the animals consumed by past human populations, to estimate the nutritional value of these animals in the human diet.
