Summary:This article recounts the experiences of an all-male group of 59 winterers (explorers) who spent almost a year in Antarctica. As well as a group experience, it was also a deep personal experience. For the author; this stay in another world seeming far beyond that of humans was and remains a quasi-spiritual experience, of immersing oneself in the original, untouched splendour of nature, producing a kind of oceanic feeling at the most archaic level of the coself.
