Description
Summary:Abstract Access is the antithesis of exclusion. It implies unimpeded admission and open opportunity. In both the feature films concerning the Titanic disaster, third-class passengers frantically try to rush to the upper decks to escape the rising waters and to gain access to the life-boats. They are held back by locked gates and ship’s officers brandishing guns. Eventually these passengers smash down the gates, but in vain. Most perished in the North Atlantic because there were too few life-boats and the wealthiest on board had priority.
