Summary: | Abstract Mongoloid populations today inhabit the Asian continent, the Pacific islands, and North and South America. It is generally accepted that peoples who originated in Asia were distributed throughout vast areas of Siberia and the Far East, and then some of their descendants dispersed into the Americas via the now submerged Bering land bridge (Beringia). The time, method, and routes of migra tion to Siberia have long evoked the interest of Russian, Asian, and American anthropologists who are concerned with the peopling of the Americas. Hrdlicka (1942) stated that human skeletal remains from Siberia would constitute key evidence of Asian-American connections. |
