Description
Summary:Abstract The Arctic Ocean is the Least Productive Sea on earth. Cold, deep and sealed with ice that blocks sunlight for six to twelve months of the year, it supports only minimal biological activity. In exceptional locations, however, circumstances allow pockets of productivity to develop, and these dense concentrations of life are the more remarkable for their contrast with the surrounding emptiness. One such concentration lies far to the north of Europe, midway between the northern coast of Norway and the Pole.
