Description
Summary:‘Against the odds’ talks about abiotic challenges that insects face, the two most obvious being weather and climate. Imagine having to spend winters naked on the snow-covered prairies of North America or summers naked roaming the deserts of North Africa. There are a number of problems that are particularly marked in insects that live in seasonal environments, or those where there are very marked differences between night and day temperatures. There are also insects which live in temperate or subarctic environments that need to find some way to survive the winter. The main challenge is to avoid dying from the cold.
