1. Introduction The 42 nd International Deep Drawing Research Group (IDDRG) conference was held in Luleå, Sweden, on 19-22 June 2023 (IDDRG 2023), Figure 1. The conference was chaired by Nader Asnafi and co-chaired by Johnny Sjöström, both associate professors at Luleå University of Technology, Sweden. The conference was organized by the Austrian Society for Metallurgy and Materials (ASMET). The International Deep Drawing Research Group (IDDRG) was started in 1957 as an organization of national groups from all over the world devoted to the study of sheet metal forming including forming processes, materials, formability issues, tooling, tribology, and many other interesting related aspects of sheet metal forming research and industrial practice. IDDRG conferences provide an open and scientifically highly acknowledged forum, where leading sheet metal specialists and researchers worldwide gather for fruitful discussions on challenging technical topics in an inspiring environment for knowledge exchange, interactions, and development.
