Summary:Following the success of the previous triennial Field Symposia, the VI International Field Symposium “WEST SIBERIAN PEATLANDS AND THE CARBON CYCLE: PAST AND PRESENT”, held on 27 June ‒ 08 July 2021 in Khanty-Mansiysk (Russia), brought together about 200 participants from France, Germany, Great Britain, Netherlands, and Russia. The Symposium provided an opportunity for the participants to present their recent work and exchange knowledge in the fields of biodiversity, peat accumulation and paludification, protection of the biodiversity and mires biospheric functions, integrated ecological monitoring of mire ecosystems, role of peatlands in the global carbon cycle, as well as evaluation of the anthropogenic impact on mire ecosystems, introduction of contemporary technologies for the wise use of natural resources and peat accumulation modeling in the context of global climate change.
