Description
Summary:Abstract The paper considers the joint thermal-seepage problem applicable to earth dams and dykes operating in conditions of permafrost. The problem is being solved using the finite elements method in the local-variation setting. There was worked out the model of thermal-seepage regime of the system «dam-foundation base» applicable to the tailings dike. Estimation is given to the impact of heat-mass transitions and phase changes of the liquid in earth pores on the dike state. Investigations have been done with further consideration of these factors. The results of investigation of the thermal-seepage state of the structure with consideration of factors of heat-mass transition and phase changes show that the results of calculations correspond to field data. Ignoring these factors or one of them distorts the real picture of the dike thermal-seepage state.
