However, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the subsequent expansion of NATO in Scandinavia has upset Russia’s strategic approach to the region as well as its plans for the deployment of military forces. Impacts Russia may allow for a greater Chinese military presence in the region. Joint exercises between NATO and Scandinavian forces will increase the ability of member states to deter and defend against Russia.
