Description
Summary:Plasma testosterone concentrations of two captive male hooded seals of known ages were determined for a period of 1.5–5.5 years. Concentrations of testosterone were elevated and seasonally associated with reproductive behaviour and development of the musk odour. Profiles of plasma testosterone suggest that the breeding season of the male extends over several months, thus facilitating the development of a polygynous mating system.
