Description
Summary:Gammarus obtusatus is found on rocky, moderately exposed shores from the Gulf of Maine to northeastern Newfoundland. A population at St. Philips, Conception Bay, Nfld., was studied from 1964 to 1965 and one at St. Andrews, Bay of Fundy, N.B., intermittently. Fifty percent maturity of the females occurs at 7.5 mm. Mature females produce a succession of broods between November and September, at which time they enter the resting stage. The November brood is released the next May. Fecundity increases with the size of the female. Individuals survive at the most for 1 year. The males are larger than the females.
