Occurrence of an endozoic alga in the giant scallop Placopecten magellanicus (Gmelin)

Endozoic unicellular algae are described from the marine bivalve Placopecten magellanicus (Gmelin) in Newfoundland. The endobionts, tentatively reported as zoochlorellae, represent the first recorded instance of endozoic algae occurring in the Pectinidae.
