White Whales Wintering in James Bay

The white whale or beluga (Delphinapterus leucas Pallas) has been found wintering in the numerous open leads adjacent to small islands in James Bay. The spacing of the islands apparently allows year-round open water through tidal and wind action in the narrow channels.
