Description
Summary:The Yukon Territory and the Mackenzie Valley are known to be seismically active. In view of the proposed pipeline routes through this area, all seismological data available is carefully reviewed and evaluated for completeness and reliability. Three periods in the data set are distinguished: 1899–1960, 1961–1969, 1969–onward; for each, detection and location thresholds are established and uncertainties discussed. The results of a field seismicity survey conducted in the summer of 1972 are presented to confirm older seismicity patterns, suggest estimates on focal mechanism, and evaluate the previous performance of the Canadian Network.
