Description
Summary:The paper presents the Bering Sea ice cover data referring to the period from 1998/9 to 2007/8. Vessels' operational problems in that area are indicated. The traffic is discussed, with vessels divided into two basic groups. The authors attempt to explain why ice covers mainly the eastern and northern part of the sea and define the maximum ice extent in the decade under consideration. This study is based on selected data available on the website of the National Ice Center [6].
