Summary:For the purpose of this paper, northern Canada comprises all the territory north of lat 60° N. Included in this area of approximately 1500000 square miles are all of Yukon and Northwest Territories and small parts of Quebec and Labrador. Although the area is clearly defined by latitude, the subject matter of this paper also takes into account those developments farther south which have a direct effect upon the north.
