Studies on Myxidium oviforme, a myxosporidan parasite of Irish salmon, Salmo salar

Myxidium oviforme is described from Irish salmon Salmo salar . Its close relationship with M. folium, M. moxostomatis and M. aplodinoti , and its possible economic importance are discussed. Attempts to establish infections of M. oviforme in young, parasite-free salmon are described, and the reasons for their negative results discussed. This work was carried out during the tenure of a Medical Research Council Scholarship for Training in Research Methods between October 1964 and September 1966, and forms part of a thesis submitted for the Ph.D. Degree of the University of London.
