Summary:Abstract Three Pardosa species assigned to the modica group are redcscribed and illustrated: P. algens (Kulczynski) (with P. johanseni Gertsch and P. townsendi Gertsch placed as junior synonyms) from northern Siberia and arctic North America; P. septentrionalis (Westring) from Scandinavia and northern Euro-Russia into NW Siberia; and P. sodalis Holm (with P. bargusinensis Šternbergs placed as junior synonym) from widely separated localities in Siberia and NW North America (Alaska, Yukon). Geographical variation is noted in P. algens but infraspecific taxa are not formally adopted. Some reflections on the distribution of wolf spiders in arctic Nearctic are presented.
