Summary:Abstract Five species of myriapods have previously been recorded from Iceland. To these are here added: Brachygeophilus truncorum (Bergsö & Meinert), Brachydesmus superus Latzel and Polydesmus coriaceus Porst. A further dubious diplopod from Skaftafell is commented upon. The variability and the life history within the Icelandic populations of Lithobius and Lamyctes species are described. The history of the Icelandic myriapod fauna is discussed. It is concluded that most species probably arrived by human transport. Only three species (Lithobius melanops, Lamyctes fulvicornis, Proteroiulus fuscus) may be older on the island.
