Description
Summary:The Sámi of Finland, Norway, and Sweden have turned to online petitions, protests, and campaigns as a way to fight against deep-sea drilling, oil extraction, and railway development. The Sámi’s protests are made difficult because on paper these seem like ecologically sound developments, but in reality they damage the pastures and herds in the region. Through Twitter and YouTube, the Sámi have launched a diversity of campaigns to maintain and reclaim their rights. This chapter also examines the role of international agreements for a transnational herding community.
