Nick Brown

Official portrait, 2020 Nicholas Hugh Brown (born 13 June 1950) is a British politician who served as Member of Parliament (MP) for Newcastle upon Tyne East from 1983 to 2024. A member of the Labour Party until his resignation in 2023, he sat as an independent in Parliament until he stood down. He attended the Cabinet of the United Kingdom as Chief Whip from 1997 to 1998, and again from 2008 to 2010, and Agriculture Minister from 1998 to 2001.

Brown is one of the longest-serving MPs in the House of Commons in recent history. He is also the longest-serving Labour Chief Whip, discontinuously holding the position under six leaders (Blair, Brown, Harman, Miliband, Corbyn and Starmer). Provided by Wikipedia
