İlyas Sami Bey

İlyas Sami Bey was born in Muş and went to Egypt for education at an early age. After successfully completing his studies he returned to Turkey and he began to serve at the Murat Paşa Mosque in İstanbul. While serving there he was elected to the Ottoman Parliament (Osmanlı Mebusan Meclisi) from the province of Muş. In the second and third terms of the Parliament he was also elected from the same province. In the meantime he taught Arabic in the Darülfünun at the Faculty of Literature between 13 October 1915 and 3 April 1919. When WWI ended he was arrested by the Allied Powers and sent to exile to Malta as a political prisoner. He was eventually freed by the initiatives of Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM). Upon his return to Turkey he was elected to the First and Second Terms of TBMM as the representative for the province of Muş. He continued his service from the province of Bitlis for the Third Term but he was not elected for the Fourth Term. On April 1
