Summary: | Daily and monthly air and ground surface temperatures have been calculated for the Mackenzie Delta active layer monitoring sites and are available as Excel files. The Excel file DataFileListDelta.xls gives the site ID, location, coordinates and name of the data file for each site as well as the availability of 1998 data. A time-series graph accompanies each file. Daily air and ground surface temperature are plotted as lines of different colour and monthly air and ground surface temperature are plotted as dots of different colour. A blank space has been inserted in the data file where gaps exist so that the gaps will be shown on the graphs. During the winter, air temperatures may drop below the lower limit of the loggers. For the hobo loggers which were generally used earlier in the monitoring period, this limit is -37.3°C. These loggers were eventually replaced with Vemco loggers which have a lower limit of -49.8°C. The Excel file NumberDaysOutofRange.xls provides the number of days during each month that air temperatures were below the lower limit of the logger. Monthly means calculated for months in which air temperatures fell below the range of the logger will be higher than the true mean. Descriptions of each site as well as an outline of the methods used for data collection can be found in MetadataDeltaSites.doc. The contents of this file are extracted from material compiled by Mark Nixon for submission to the Circumpolar Active Layer Monitoring (CALM) program.
