In the risk assessment, the VKM have assessed the different links in the chain of infection, with the infectious agent (the virus), the source of infection, the excretion of the infectious agent, the method of transmission, the acquisition of infection, and the host of the infection, as the central elements. The HPAI-virus, subtype H5N1 is identified and described, and the most probable negative health effects are assessed qualitatively. Possible exposure risks under the different scenarios delineated by the Norwegian Food Safety Authority are assessed, and finally the possible extent of health effects is assessed qualitatively in those populations of interest to the Norwegian Food Safety Authority.
