Description
Summary:These model output of firn air content (FAC) and surface mass balance (SMB) are fromversion beta (0.0)of the open-source Glacier Energy and Mass Balance model. GEMB is a column model of ice sheet and glacier surface-atmospheric energy and mass exchange as well asfirn state. GEMB has been integrated into the open-source Ice-Sheet and Sea-level System Model which can be downloaded athttps://issm.jpl.nasa.gov/. Here, GEMB is forced with 3-hourly ERA5 output from 1979 through end of2019, and run under ISSM development versionr24739. The GEMB output is bilinearly interpolated onto a 5km grid, from the native ISSM grid, and the output is given monthly.SMB in units m/yr ice and FAC in units m. The projection isEPSG:3031 - WGS 84 / Antarctic Polar Stereographic. This beta version of FAC and SMB, originally created at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), California Institute of Technology, and released prior to the GEMB paper submission, is used by Paolo et al. https://tc.copernicus.org/articles/17/3409/2023/. The derivation of error is described in their manuscript.
