Catalogue of Auroral Kilometric Radiations (AKR) observed by the Polar spacecraft

This data set contains the catalogue of Earth Auroral Kilometric Radiations (AKR) identified in the Polar/PWI observations. The format of this catalogue follows the TFCat specifications (Time-Frequency Catalogue, https://gitlab.obspm.fr/maser/catalogues/tfcat/-/tree/master/). The two gifs provided s...

The format of this catalogue follows the TFCat specifications (Time-Frequency Catalogue, https://gitlab.obspm.fr/maser/catalogues/tfcat/-/tree/master/). The two gifs provided show the Polar satellite trajectories over the catalogue period, i.e. ∼ 60 orbits from 1996 March 25th to 1996 May 9th, relative to the Earth. The colour of the orbit is the integrated intensity of all labeled emission (excluding “LFE”) across all frequencies measured by the PWI instrument (see Table 1 for more details on the labeled features). Two different coordinates systems are used here: The Geocentric Solar Magnetospheric (GSM) system in units of Earth radii, where x is positive sunward, y is defined to be perpendicular to the Earth’s magnetic dipole, and z is positive northward. The Geomagnetic (GM) coordinate system in units of Earth radii, where Z-axis points to the Geomagnetic north pole, X-axis is in the Earth’s magnetic equatorial plane but is fixed with the rotation of the Earth, and Y-axis completes the triad. The ephemeris used to produce these plots are accessible at https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.7589412 . The magnetic field model used to compute the ephemeris is the International Geomagnetic Reference Field (IGRF) model version 13.
