Summary:The effects of the small-scale ocean variablity in Fram Strait on the acoustic propagation there are now well documented. In the process of working through the acoustic forward problem to understand the nature of the tomography data acquired there, a more accurate approach to computing inverses of those data to obtain estimates for sound speed or temperature became apparent. This approach exploits the stochastic effects on the acoustic ray paths and travel times; inasmuch as it relies on the essential nature of the acoustic propagation it is an optimal approach to inverse estimates. Although the steps to computing the inverses for Fram Strait are documented by existing recent publications in the major oceanographic journals, the precise formulations for the components of the inverses presently employed are separated in several of those publications. This report therefore brings these pieces together into a single document, while showing some of the details of the inverse estimates and documenting some of the results for each of the acoustic paths for which data are available.
