China; montane Europe (formerly widespread, now restricted to Balkans and Carpathians); Asia Minor through mtns, of C. Asia to Kansu, Tsaidam (Tsinghai), Shansi, and Szechwan (China); Sakhalin (U.S. S. R.); perhaps Sardinia. COMMENT: Does not include canadensis or pardinus; see Matyushkin, 1979, Arch. Zool. Mus.
