DISTRIBUTION: Southern Hemisphere: coastal temperate waters of South America, from Rio Urucanga, Santa Catarina, Brazil to Tierra del Fuego to Paita, Peru. STATUS: CITES - Appendix II. SYNONYMS: philippii. COMMENTS: Reviewed by Brownell and Praderi (1984, Mammalian Species, 217). A recent specimen referred to this species from Heard Island has been reidentified as Australophocaena dioptrica (Brownell et al., 1989). Published as part of James G. Mead & Robert L.
