Description
Summary:Alaska lupine ( Lupinus nootkatensis ) is a sustainable plant that thrives in Icelandic conditions and does not require fertiliser application or seed import. At least 30 000 tonnes of accessible lupine biomass grow in the south of Iceland each year. This biomass is completely underutilised today. The purpose of this project was to investigate the possible use of fibre processed from Alaska lupine for food packaging. The main objective of this work was to develop an environmentally friendly processing method that is suitable for scaling up and evaluating the safety of the final product in terms of chemical and microbial content. This report presents results from the development of the processing method and scaling up, chemical and texture measurements and interpretation of the results. _____ Alskalúpína ( Lupinus nootkatensis ) er sjálfbær planta, sem dafnar vel við íslenskar aðstæður og þarfnast ekki áburðargjafar né innflutnings á fræi. A.m.k. 30 000tonn af aðgengilegum lífmassa lúpínu vaxa á Suðurlandi á hverju ári.
