Utility of polarizations available from Sentinel-1 for tundra mapping

This presentation reviews achievements with C-band SAR in generaland specifically Sentinel-1 for Arctic land monitoring, theimplications of the current acquisition strategy including theavailability of certain polarizations and discusses differencesto other wavelengths through the use of Kennaugh pa...

C-VV has the best availability and canbe used for a wide range of land cover and terrain changestudies. C-HH has been proven applicable for soil characterizationbut can only be applied regionally. A combinationwith other wavelengths (demonstrated for X-band) is promisingfor specifically mapping of wetlands, which are of interestwith respect to permafrost applications.
