Višegodišnja ratna stihija nije rastočila samo ekonomiju, već i posledično socijalnu strukuru predratnih društava, gurnuvši veliki deo populacije u prisilne migratorne talase najrazličitijih vrsta koji su, u relativno kratkom periodu, dramatično izmenili etničku strukturu Evropskog kontinenta. Ipak, završetak rata nije doneo smirivanje ovih burnih procesa, već naprotiv.
