Description
Summary:Ambogaster wibawae Heydon (Figs 4, 5, 6) Ambogaster wibawae Heydon, in Heydon and Hanson 2005: 151 –154. Remarks. With the accumulation of more material it became apparent that the original type series actually contained a mix of two species, Am. wibawae and what is described above as Am. karooi. Among the material mistakenly assigned to Am. wibawae was the male designated as allotype. Because of the confusion I give below the distributional records of Am. wibawae in complete fashion. In addition to the characters given in the key, the head of Am. wibawae is not as massive as that of Am. karooi, particularly in the genal area, but this character proved difficult to quantify. However, this character should be readily apparent after examination of a short series of the two species. There is considerable color variation in females of this species. Larger females, with a body length of more than 2.8 mm, tend to have the head and mesosoma paler and contrasting with the brown gaster. Those females less than 2.7 mm in length tend to have the body uniformly dark brown. Material examined. Holotype female (MNNC). CHILE: VIII Región: Shangri–lá (near Termas de Chillán), 15.III. 1993. Fourteen female and four male paratypes were collected as follows (MLPA, MNNC, UCDC): ARGENTINA. Neuquén, Parque Nacional Lanin, 2km nw. Nonthué (40 ˚08’S 71 ˚ 40 ’W), 20.II. 1999, MT, 1 ♂; Parque Nacional Lanin, 3km sw. Hua–Hua (40 ˚08’S 71 ˚ 38 ’W), 20.II. 1999, MT, 1 ♀; Parque Nacional Nahuel Haupi, 9km nw. La Angostura (40 ˚ 41 ’S 71 ˚ 42 ’W), 21.II.1999, 1 ♀. CHILE.
