Body surface usually without strongly developed sculpture or ornamentation, rarely foveolate, striate or granulate/ rugose, pteromorphs partially reticulate. Rostrum rounded, pointed or with trapezoid ledge. Lamellar and sublamellar lines present, long, thin, parallel, curving backwards at ventral end. Rostral setae medial to lamellar lines and distanced from them. Lamellar setae medial to lamellar lines. Bothridial setae strongly diverse morphologically. Dorsosejugal suture and postanal porose area absent or present. Notogastral setae represented by 10 pairs of alveoli (exceptionally microsetae), one pair on pteromorphs.
