Summary: | Genus Leptochiton Gray, 1847 Type species. Chiton cinereus Montagu, 1803 (non Linnaeus, 1767) = Leptochiton asellus (Gmelin, 1791) SD by Gray (1847). Genus distribution. Worldwide, Carboniferous–Recent, intertidal– 7657 m. Remarks. Sigwart et al. (2011) demonstrated that Leptochiton is not monophyletic based on molecular analyses of three genes; accordingly Leptochiton s.s. is restricted to the North Atlantic and Mediterranean. I here use Leptochiton s.l. according to the traditional morphological concept. Published as part of Sirenko, Boris, 2018, Taiwanese deep-water chitons (Mollusca: Polyplacophora) and survey of chiton fauna of Taiwan, pp. 301-344 in Zootaxa 4422 (3) on page 307, DOI:10.11646/zootaxa.4422.3.1, http://zenodo.org/record/1253051 |
