Summary: | Carcharhinus galapagensis (Snodgrass & Heller, 1905). Galapagos Shark . To at least 3.0 m (12.1 ft) TL and possibly to 3.7 m (14.1 ft) TL (Weigman 2016). Circumglobal in tropical waters; western Pacific Ocean north to Ogasawara Islands (Yoshino and Aonuma in Nakabo 2002); patchily distributed from central Baja California (Compagno et al. in Fischer et al. 1995), and Rocas Alijos, southern Baja California (Gotshall 1996), to Peru (Cornejo et al. 2015), and Easter Island (Chirichigno and Vélez 1998), including Gulf of California (Compagno et al. in Fischer et al. 1995) and Islas Galápagos (Grove and Lavenberg 1997). Depth: surface to 371 m (1,217 ft) (min.: Allen and Robertson 2015; max.: Weijerman et al. 2019). Possibly a synonym of Carcharhinus obscurus (Naylor et al. 2012). Pazmiño et al. (2019) reported on a number of individuals that were hybrids of C. galapagensis and Carcharhinus obscurus (Lesueur, 1818) in the eastern Pacific Ocean.
