Indo-Pacific; western Pacific Ocean north to Japan (Araga in Masuda et al. 1984); Bahía Almejas, southern Baja California (Personal communication: Scripps Institution of Oceanography Fish Collection, La Jolla, California) to Peru (Robertson and Allen 2002), Easter Island (Pequeño 1989), and Islas Galápagos (Grove and Lavenberg 1997).
